LORD MAYOR’S SHOW

LORD MAYOR’S SHOW

The spectacular Lord Mayor’s Show returns to London on 9th November! Join 500,000 people lining the route between Bank and Aldwych as the newly elected Lord Mayor of London travels to Westminster to pledge allegiance to the Crown.

In 1215, King John granted a charter that enabled London’s citizens to elect their own mayor; and, 804 years later, this historical ceremony still stands – and has even been maintained in the face of plagues, fires and countless wars! Today, this spectacular procession celebrates both its traditional and ceremonial origins and the diverse cultural wealth of contemporary London, creating a dazzling spectacle that abounds with joy and celebration.

Watch Lord Mayor’s Show in London, civic parade of over 6000 people, with around 140 floats, marching bands, military detachments, dance troupes, inflatables, and several floats showcasing charities and school groups. The jewel of the procession is arguably the iconic golden Lord Mayor’s Coach: now over 250 years old, this remarkable vehicle resides at the Museum of London for most of the year but springs faithfully into action every November, to be part of this splendid ceremony.

There’s plenty to see as well as the parade: two family Show Zones, at Paternoster Square and the new Bloomberg building, offer a programme of activities throughout the day, including fairground rides, giant games, tasty street food, craft workshops, and an eclectic range of acts on the entertainment stage. With roads closed, there are plenty of places to watch this three-mile-long procession; and, as it’s free to enter, you can pop in for as long or as little as you like!

The celebrations center around Bank, which is easily accessible by public transport from us at the Indigo London Paddington – so don some comfy shoes and prepare to be part of Lord Mayor’s Show iconic, world-renowned, historical pageant!
