Topiary Butterfly Garden in Norfolk Square
Did you know that Britain is home to fifty-nine different resident species of butterfly? You may have done, but did you also know that these numbers are upsettingly on a rapid decline? Now more than ever it is crucial to encourage these amazing creatures to flourish in nature, which in turn will benefit the environment.
Butterflies are one of the most elegant and eye capturing animals on our planet, with a plethora of colours, styles and wing designs they truly are a sight to behold. If you’ve visited Norfolk Square Gardens in Paddington recently you would have noticed two fairly new installations courtesy of PaddingtonNow BID as they have introduced two new stunning topiary butterflies to the gardens.
The introduction of these topiary butterflies in Paddington garden is not just for show, their garden has been specifically designed to attract butterflies in hopes that they will continue to play their part in their imperative roles in our ecosystem, namely pollination and natural pest control.
Paddington BID worked closely alongside Agrumi Bespoke Topiary to design the butterflies and plan the planting. They have also partnered up with Big City Butterflies aiming to encourage butterflies to return to the area, this collaboration will continue over the years as they will be monitoring the species and numbers through surveys.
Not only will the topiary butterflies improve air quality and biodiversity in the area but it is hoped that these wonderful additions to Norfolk Square Gardens will entice more people to the square for relaxation and to visit events when they take place. The topiary butterfly garden project in Paddington is supported by the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL), Westminster City Council and the Hyde Park Paddington Neighbourhood Forum.
