“ Exactly what I was seeking in a hotel ”5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 may 2017 on tripadvisor
I stayed at the Hotel Indigo in San Diego some time ago and loved it, so figured this one would be a safe bet. It was. The hotel is right up the block from Paddington Station, so it's easy and affordable to reach from Heathrow via the Heathrow Express. (Quick tip on the Heathrow Express: it's cheaper to purchase tickets online as far in advance as possible--you can even get a mobile ticket through their phone app--and the journey from the airport to Paddington seemed even swifter than the promised 15 minutes--more like 8-9 minutes.)
My room at the Indigo was extremely small, but I was prepared for that in London; otherwise, it had everything I needed, was clean and appeared newly renovated with an attractive color scheme. The bed was comfy, the shower stall had plenty of room to move around in, and the dorm fridge even had complimentary soft drinks. The room had almost every amenity one could hope for--hair dryer, iron & ironing board, full-length mirror & makeup mirror, sewing kit, etc. Also, I read reviews from other guests before coming here about there being no A/C, but it was extremely hot outside on the day I arrived and I was able to get it to work just fine. Finally, the hotel staff was pleasant as well.
The proximity to Paddington Station made it easy to navigate the city via the Tube, and Runner Friends, you will probably appreciate the proximity to Hyde Park, which I took advantage of to run in every morning. (The hotel does have a fitness room, but I prefer the outdoors.) Also, if you've forgotten your toothpaste, there's a small Boots conveniently located in Paddington Station, as well as a Starbucks if you just need a reliable Pike Place coffee to start your morning before venturing forth to experiment with the city's fine independent coffee purveyors. (And yes, Americans, you can use your Starbucks app to pay--it works just fine.) And one other thing: if you're trying to stick to healthy, affordable eating options while traveling, don't overlook the M & S Simply Food shop in Paddington Station, which offers a variety of packaged salads, hummus, berries, etc.--a very happy discovery for me when I found myself craving vegetables.
Overall, a great stay, and I would be happy to stay at the Hotel Indigo Paddington again the next time I'm in London!
